Assignment 4 Group Project

Assignment 4 Group Project

Q Assignment 4 Collaborative Work For this assignment, you will work in groups of 3. The groups will be assigned after Test 2. Your job is to work out the following: 1. Meet by phone, email, or in person if possible. Discuss the presentation. 2. Choose one part of the world for the Group to study in depth. 3. Some great options, but not limited to, include Appalachian Mountains, Andes, Antarctica, Alaska, Japan, Rockies, Himalayas, Great Britain, Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia, California, Iceland, Central America, Nova Scotia, East African Rift, Mediterranean, or other place that is large enough to have tectonics, rocks, and climate. Do NOT choose something like a cave, a rock (like Enchanted Rock or Uluru). If you are not certain of your choice, ask me! 4. One member will outline and describe the tectonic features of the area. 5. One member will outline and describe rocks and minerals of the area. 6. One member will outline and describe the climate of the area. 1. In the event of a no-show to the group, each person will be responsible only for their one part. Each student will receive an independent grade for the group project. Their chosen part will be the grading criteria. Collectively, you need to decide on which location you want to work on and compile into a PowerPoint presentation. Each individual's part should be submitted individually (much easier to load into Blackboard!). Include all group members on the title page of the presentation, and which parts each person authored. All work must be original (no copy and paste from sources). Each part should be at least 10 slides (NOT including title slide and reference slide). Each part will be graded individually, but teamwork should be used to format and work in conjunction with the other parts. (For example, tectonic activity can affect what rocks and minerals are present, and climate can affect the rates of weathering and erosion of the rocks.) Speakers notes must be included with the slides. Each student will be graded on the part agreed upon to that student by the group. Use Lecture ppts, textbook, internet, or other resources as necessary. Final PowerPoint should include slides with diagrams/bulleted lists/brief highlights, and the speakers notes should explain what’s on the slide in more detail, but not adding new stuff. Please see the attached ppt called How to make a great presentation. How they will be graded: Group attendance for choosing the location and compilation (based on the word document explaining who is doing which part) 5 Tectonics, rocks and minerals, or climate part is 10-12 slides long each persons part (excluding title slide) 10 Content – accuracy/knowledge of information 15 Critical thinking – strong analysis and interpretation 15 Examples – relevant to the location 5 Short number of slides equates to short points in slide number, content, and critical thinking area. Questions of any kind are welcome!
